Catskills on Broadway (Jun 1992) Freddie Roman - Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

This show is comedy Freddie Roman, Dick Capri, and Mal Z Lawrence were there when it was happening, honing their craft in the Catskills in its golden years. They are hysterical, and when Mal Z goes off on a tangent about the way the guests enjoyed (and lived for) their food in the massive dining rooms, you will be on the floor hysterically laughing. Louise Duart, although not a borscht belt comedian, is a fine impersonator, and did an incredible job in her poignant interpretation of George Burns that had the audience in tears. But, most of the show we have the audience in tears....of laughter! Catskills on Broadway (Jun 1992) Freddie Roman, Marilyn Michaels, Mal. Z. Lawrence, Dick Capri Lunt-Fontanne Theatre The title of the show "Catskills on Broadway" deserves a truth-in-advertising award. With these four stand-up comics at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, you pay your money and you get the jokes, unless you happen to miss the punch lines because of the laughter.Appropriately, the show begins with a quick, clever montage of photographs of celebrities and guests enjoying themselves at diverse hotels. The song "Comedy Tonight" is heard in the background. For receptive theatergoers, "Catskills on Broadway" offers something familiar, and something entertaining. Is Broadway ready for the Catskills? Do Catskill hotels serve too much food? NY Times 12/06/1991.
