1984 Australian Tour Souvenir Brochure.

The History of Russian involvement in figure skating goes back to before the beginning of organised world competitions in the sport. In 1896 the first ever world figure skating championship was held in St Petersburg.  In 1903 the world championships were again held in Russia and this time the field had grown to a total of five competitors. In 1908 a pair skating event was added, but women were not admitted to the competition until the mid 1950’s

Turning professional in 1984, they took advantage not only of the financial but of the artistic possibilities of their new status. They worked with Australian dance choreographer Graeme Murphy at first, and they were able to create not only routines for themselves but entire ice shows with a thematic coherence, which toured Australia, the U.S., and Europe. Their projects included a filmed fairy tale "Fire and Ice." In general, Dean would imagine the sequence he wanted to perform, and Torvill would work with him to refine it technically.

Size 245 x 340 mm Photographs from the show and the Cast a great addition to any show collection.
