  ''Straight-Jacket,'' a comedy by Richard Day, is set in Hollywood in the 1950's, a setting it uses to suggest a parallel between antigay bias and the House Un-American Activities Committee. The show concerns a gay matinee idol who, to keep up appearances, is coerced by the head of a movie studio into marrying a ditzy secretary; at the same time the McCarthyites are threatening to shut down the studio unless a big name star confesses to being a Communist. Sally (the secretary) has no idea her marriage is a sham, though, and turns Guy's life upside-down. Then he falls in love.
