The Recruit was debuted by the STC in 2000.

The play tells the story of two former footballers, Josh and Al, who go to the country home of a gifted young footballer to try to lure him to their club with promises of plentiful money and women. But, unwittingly finding themselves interrupting the family's grieving over a death, Josh (Gary Sweet) and Al (Kevin Harrington) become consumed by a competition between themselves to be the first to sign the boy, and to be the best healer of the family.
