Will Durst (Play)
Bipartisan Bashing Directed by Eric Krebs Starring Will Durst
New World Stages (Aug 2007)
Satirist Will Durst certainly has easy targets--politicians--and he takes full advantage, making a mockery of the American political landscape in this laugh-filled 90-minute monologue. Most of his humor is aimed at the Bush camp, but that's understandable considering what's transpired over the past seven years. But the humor aside, his wry observations evoke thought about the state of this nation. How often do you see that on the New York stage?.President George W. Bush is, as always, an easy target - "For a political comic," says Durst, "[Bush] is part of the Full Employment Act."
But one does expect (or at least hope for) ribbing a bit beyond the typical "Bush is dumb and a poor speaker" oeuvre - early on, when Durst pulls a piece of paper from his pocket and begins reading a list of "Bushisms," you can't help but feel that perhaps, just perhaps, the well has run dry. On the other side of the aisle, there are bits about former President Bill Clinton's amorousness and untrustworthiness, and John Kerry's lack of personality. Stop the presses!
