Adapted by Mary Morris from Morris Gleitzman's Noel
An Australian family, struggling with the recent recession are finding it hard with money. While spending one evening watching television, their youngest of two children, Luke, collapses on the floor. The family rushes him to the hospital and after a few days, Luke is diagnosed with cancer. Luke's parents send his older brother, Colin, to stay in London while Luke is being taken care of. Colin is put on his flight by his parents and meets his mother's sister, Aunt Iris, her husband, Uncle Bob, and their son, Alistair; in London. Colin has the intention of getting the Queen's doctor to cure Luke's cancer. One night, Colin convinces Alistair to sneak out of the house so they can break into Buckingham Palace to see the Queen. They are caught however, and are scolded by Aunt Iris and Uncle Bob when they are sent back home. Uncle Bob convinces Colin that when you have a problem, you cannot rely on the Queen, and you must fix it yourself.
