London Suite (May 1995)

Carole Shelley, Paxton Whitehead, Kate Burton - Union Square

In London Suite, seen on Broadway in 2000, Simon returns to the hotel-room inspiration of his two earlier comedies, 1968's Plaza Suite and 1976's California Suite. The new piece is devised as four contrasting comedies, moving from black humour to unbridled farce, with four different sets of characters who have just one thing in common - suite 402 of a fashionable London hotel.

Disgruntled Welsh writer Brian is holding his embezzling investment manager at gunpoint. Lauren sets her shopaholic mother up on the worst date of her life. Oscar nominee Diana and her bisexual husband Sidney meet up for the first time in eight years. And cantankerous couple Mark and Annie are determined to see Wimbledon. America's most successful playwright, Neil Simon has been churning out comedy hits for nearly every Broadway season since 1960, with many of them later adapted for the big screen. His many plays include The Odd Couple, Barefoot in the Park, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Prisoner of Second Avenue and his autobiographical series of Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, Broadway Bound and Lost in Yonkers.
