Water Falling Down - Queensland Theatre Company 2011 - Cremorne Theatre
by Mark Swivel
Water Falling Down is an intimate two-hander, a closely observed portrait of a father and son, a wry, witty and tender meditation on parenting, love and grief
‘Son’, divorced and disillusioned, discovers that his teenage son won’t speak to him ‘til after Christmas’. He responds by taking ‘Dad’, his widowed father who is slipping into dementia (aphasia) and still grieving the loss of his wife, on a trip to Europe, . The men struggle to connect, occasionally succeed, and exorcise their demons.
Water Falling Down premiered in the Queensland Theatre Company 2011 mainstage season directed by Andrea Moor, performed by Ron Haddrick and Andrew Buchanan, designed by Ross Wallace; and was also produced by B Street Theatre in Sacramento in Jan-Feb 2012. Water Falling Down was developed at Playwriting Australia’s National Script Workshop 2009 and presented at the National Play Festival 2010. This version is the updated text as performed by QTC.
