  In ''Spoils of War,'' Michael Weller's wrenching new play , a 16-year-old boy named Martin will stop at nothing to mend the pieces of his broken household. The time is the Eisenhower 1950's, and Martin (Christopher Collet), a precocious only child, is all too keenly aware that the era's promised ideal of the model home has eluded him. But the author isn't Martin; he is the playwright Martin became, a mature writer who can retrieve the past and sort it out. By waiting until midcareer to write the sort of autobiographical play that is usually the province of younger writers, Mr. Weller has sifted through familiar themes with exceptional objectivity and, without losing his ironic sense of humor, has written the most intense and affecting work of his admirable career.
